In the last few weeks, we have seen the day of the fumble, and the day of the missed field goal. This Saturday could be seen as the day of the botched challenge. While Jim Schwarz’s gaffe may have severely damaged his team’s chance of winning, the two foolish challenges of Marvin Lewis cost him only a pair of timeouts in a game that was out of reach for the Bengals.

There are two basic kinds of playoff fantasy football competitions. In one kind, you can select different players each week. This article will not touch on that type of contest. The other kind, which will be dealt with here, is where you pick a team at the beginning and go with it, even if your players have been eliminated. The key difference between this type of game and standard free fantasy football leagues is that you are no longer going head-to-head. Calvin Johnson could be preparing to take off in round one of the playoffs.
For the final Monday column, I’m just going to note a few facts, looking mostly for info that will help with playoff fantasy football games. I don’t think that much happened on Sunday that would affect the 2012 fantasy football rankings. We already knew Victor Cruz had a great 2011. We already know Drew Brees fills up the box score against bad defenses in domes. One more example doesn’t make that any more true. I’m not going to drastically change how I feel about players based on upon week 17 any more than I would do so based upon week eight. It’s just one game, even if it’s the last one. (more…)
