Mondays Minings: a Fantasy-minded Review of all of the Weekend’s Action

Monday, January 16th, 2012

He didn't have the biggest statline, but Marques Colston may have done the most for his 2012 value this weekend.

It’s Monday again. Of course, it’s the last Monday before the conference championships so players are left with a diminishing pool of options in playoff fantasy football games. Next week, the last four teams will meet up in real football and players are either all set in playoff fantasy challenges or are scrambling to find replacement players that they can afford in salary cap playoff fantasy football contests. But still, every game means something, and we can still learn, mix up the 2012 fantasy football rankings, or just gain a better appreciation for the players that will affect our weekly fantasy football competitions in the coming year.

Mondays Minings: a Fantasy-minded Review of all of Sunday’s Action

Monday, January 9th, 2012

Demaryius Thomas did most of the heavy lifting for Denver on Sunday.

It wasn’t surprising that Denver was able to get to overtime at home on Sunday. It wasn’t even that surprising that Tim Tebow connected with Demaryius Thomas to end it within ten seconds.  What was surprising, was how Denver did it. It was Tim Tebow who outplayed Ben Roethlisberger for fifty minutes. It was the Steelers who attempted to “Tebow” the Broncs, capitalizing on a fumble by Willis McGahee and marching down the field twice against Denver’s prevent to tie the game in regulation.

Mondays Minings (Sunday Edition)

Sunday, January 8th, 2012

Arian Foster had the biggest Saturday on the ground. Something will have to give when he meets Baltimore next week.

In the last few weeks, we have seen the day of the fumble, and the day of the missed field goal. This Saturday could be seen as the day of the botched challenge. While Jim Schwarz’s gaffe may have severely damaged his team’s chance of winning, the two foolish challenges of Marvin Lewis cost him only a pair of timeouts in a game that was out of reach for the Bengals.

2012 Fantasy Football Preview – Part IX: Tight Ends

Saturday, December 31st, 2011

Jimmy Graham might not be a slam dunk as the first tight end off the board in 2012, but there's a lot to like about him going forward.

Week 17 is upon us. The weekly fantasy football season is over. We are still a week away from playoff fantasy football games. What better time to reflect on the 2011 season and look ahead towards next year. All week we’ve been looking at the players that will shape the 2012 fantasy football season. (more…)

2012 Fantasy Football Preview – Part VIII: Late-round Wide Receivers

Friday, December 30th, 2011

Titus Young could break out in his second year opposite Calvin Johnson.

The 2012 fantasy football rankings finish up the look at wide receivers with a discussion of candidates to draft in the late rounds of free fantasy football competitions. As with all weekly fantasy football competitions, the late rounds should be educated guesses, trying to find someone who could break out. A wideout who has the number two role in Seattle is useless here, even if he ends up with more total points than most of the guys who do get drafted. So while I will number them, these tiers more than any other are a matter of preference. (more…)

2012 Fantasy Football Preview – Part VII: More Wide Receivers

Thursday, December 29th, 2011

After missing most of 2011 Kenny Britt could be a bargain in 2012.

Come next week, everyone will be deep into playoff fantasy football games. Right now, while the regular season is still on our minds, it’s time to attempt to impose some order on the 2011 season and try to figure out what we will want going into free fantasy football drafts in 2012. We looked at running backs and quarterbacks, and yesterday we took a glance at the top-17 wide receivers, split into three tiers. This part of the 2012 fantasy football rankings preview will concentrate on the mid-range receivers, the guys that will probably be chosen as the third and fourth receivers for your weekly fantasy football team.
