Tuesday Waiver Wire: Week Two Potential

With week one of the fantasy football season in the books, it’s time for the first evaluation of the waiver wire. With some no-name players making an initial splash and some big-time players handling injuries, it’s never too early to starting scouring the draft day scrap heap in order to bolster your team. This week’s pickups include a quarterback, running back and tight end that are worthy of obtaining a spot on your roster.

Henne

CHAD HENNE- Even Dolphins fans wanted Henne out of the job before the season started when the Kyle Orton trade talks hit a boiling point, so don’t feel bad if the former Michigan QB didn’t exactly skyrocket up your quarterback rankings list. Now people in Miami are whistling a different tune and it may be time for you to do the same if you need depth at QB. Henne had arguably his best performance as a pro Monday night against the Patriots when he completed 30-of-49 passes for 416 yards and 2 touchdowns. While those numbers aren’t expected to be consistent with Henne, it was obvious that new Offensive Coordinator Brian Daboll’s plan to take Henne out of his comfort zone and throw the ball down field is somewhat effective. Henne is cutting the ball loose unlike he has any other year which could potentially set up more performances like his last one. Henne faces a Houston defense this week that is still unproven despite playing a crippled Colts’ offense in week one.

Williams

CARNELL WILLIAMS- It’s time to take the Cadillac out of the garage and rev him up for your fantasy football team. Williams came in the game and filled-in nicely last Sunday after Steven Jackson strained his quadriceps muscle. Williams rushed for 91 yards on 19 carries and also caught 5 balls for 49 yards. It’s looking like Jackson will not be able to return for at least a week and with his injury history, Cadillac could be seeing some significant time especially if QB Sam Bradford is unable to start due to his hand injury. While Williams has his own injury track record to worry about, he could be a solid asset to your team if you’re a Jackson owner or just looking for more depth at RB. The Rams will face the banged up New York Giants defense on Monday Night Football next week.

Chandler

SCOTT CHANDLER- Here’s a household name that clearly slipped your mind on draft day. The Bills’ tight end was drafted in 2007, didn’t register an NFL catch until 2010 and never even thought about the end zone…until last Sunday of course. The 6’7 target out of Iowa pulled in 5 receptions for 63 yards and 2 touchdowns during Buffalo’s 41-7 route of Kansas City in week one and Chandler looked like he evolved into Ryan Fitzpatrick’s favorite red zone target. Both of Chandler’s touchdown catches were inside the opponent’s 15-yard-line and with his massive frame, Chandler provides a huge target for Fitzpatrick to throw to. It might be wise to scoop Chandler up now and watch the chemistry between him and his QB progress rather than waiting a few weeks and rushing to the computer in hopes of acquiring him after he has another game like he did in week one. The Bills will host the Oakland Raiders next Sunday who allowed the Broncos’ Kyle Orton to throw for 304 yards during their Monday night Opener.
