As the season is fading away in both the NFL and weekly fantasy football, there is still much at stake in both of the respective leagues. If you’re the New York Giants or at least own some of the New York Giants as you make you last ditch effort to conquer the fantasy football playoffs, this week is as important as they come. The Giants will be hosting the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday to decide the NFC East crown. This week’s spotlight will dissect the Giants as they try to stave off elimination and you try to grab some glory before becoming a full-time weekly fantasy basketball player.
QUATERBACK: Eli Manning was voted to his second Pro Bowl this year after throwing for 4587 yards with 26 touchdowns and 16 interceptions. There really shouldn’t be any doubt on whether to play Manning this week if he’s on your roster unless you have another elite option. Manning will be facing a Dallas pass defense that is ranked 23rd in the league and has allowed 21 passing touchdowns so far this season. You can trust Eli with your season finale this week.
RUNNING BACK: The two-headed monster for New York hasn’t been that ferocious as of late. Ahmad Bradshaw has missed numerous games with injury and has just one 100-yard game so far. Although he still isn’t practicing, Bradshaw will likely start on Sunday. Still, he isn’t the most solid play this week. As far as Brandon Jacobs goes, other than talking trash and getting into altercations with other team’s head coaches, he hasn’t proved he can do much of anything. Jacobs has only 555 yards rushing this season despite having the same amount of carries as he did in his 2010 campaign where he rushed for 823 yards. Now that Bradshaw is back, don’t look for Jacobs to be anything more than a short-yardage back. For better options at running back, check out the week 17 fantasy football waiver wire.
WIDE RECEIVER: This group of receivers hasn’t just been frustrating to just Eli Manning but to fantasy owners as well. Hakeem Nicks has been relatively reliable but has missed time due to injury, Mario Manningham has been battling injuries all season and hasn’t been effective even when he’s on the field and the only sure fire guy each week for the Giants is a guy named Victor Cruz. The undrafted UMass product leads the G-Men in receptions (76), receiving yards (1358) and receiving touchdowns (8) and has been as reliable as them come this year. Cruz is an automatic play this week along with Nicks who despite missing practice should be ready to go.
TIGHT END: Jake Ballard has been exceptionally average this year and really doesn’t need to be on your starting roster this week. If you have Ballard, try look for a better matchup play like Buffalo’s Scott Chandler facing New England or Carolina’s Greg Olsen or Jeremy Shockey against New Orleans.
