The first game of the 2011 NFL season is finally here and set to kickoff tonight, Thursday at 8:30 pm, between the Green Bay Packers and New Orleans Saints. Make sure your lineups are set and corrected for your 2011 fantasy football games this week at Fantazzle. Take a look below for who you should or should not be targeting for week one of fantasy football action.
START’EM
TE, Lance Kendricks/St. Louis Rams: Sam Bradford will be under duress all day long with that nasty Philly defense, forcing him to check down many times through the game; beneficiary? The tight end, Lance Kendricks.
WR, Johnny Knox/Chicago Bears: Roy Williams has been screwing up all camp long, meaning more looks for Johnny Knox; who by the way also returns kicks for those of you in leagues with points for return yardage. Entering his third season in 2011, with Cutler also eager to prove naysayers wrong, Knox may be in line for a breakout campaign.
WR, Arrelious Benn/Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Benn is starting opposite Mike Williams and playing against an improved, but still weak Detroit defense for fantasy purposes. If you can afford it, and if your league is deep enough, you should be able to find a spot for Aerrlious Benn in one of your flex spots.
RB, Arian Foster/Houston Texans: Foster has been dealing with a hamstring issue, but there is just no way he’s not going to be ready for week one of the 2011 fantasy football regular season. Start him with confidence and expect results.
WR, Plaxico Burress/New York Jets: Burress has looked good in camp and is starting opposite side of Santonio Holmes. I expect him to get a lot of looks as a big target, and his week one opponent against the Cowboys is a favorable matchup.
SIT’EM
WR, Lance Moore/New Orleans Saints: Lance Moore has been ruled out for Thursday night’s game with a groin issue. He’s one of this years’ bigger sleeper candidates, so this comes as a disappointment.
RB, James Starks/Green Bay Packers: In much deeper leagues, I would sit Starks here. You just don’t know what is going to happen with Ryan Grant being there and how many carries either of them will see. Let week one play out first before we know what to do with James Starks.
WR, Miles Austin/Dallas Cowboys: For my surprise pick of the week, I know it’s early and I know it’s week one, but I’m making a gutsy call to bench the star wide out against the stingy Jet defense—Revis has made a living shutting down number one wide receivers like Miles Austin—you have to be a fantasy vet to make a move like this.
RB, Joseph Addai/Indianapolis Colts: I would sit Addai in this one. Houston’s defense is much improved and best believe they are going to be stacking the box up on Kerry Collins, forcing him to have to make plays with his arm. Houston knows that Indy may try and rely heavily upon Addai, but I just don’t see Houston allowing Addai to run all over them.
