It seems as if every expert is saying not to draft Carolina running backs DeAngelo Williams and Jonathan Stewart. For some reason, no one is listening. They are still been drafted way ahead of where they should be. So I will continue to beat the rotting corpse of what once was a horse. This team is not good. This offense is not good. There are not nearly enough points to go around for both of them to be feasible fantasy football options. There really aren’t enough points to justify drafting Williams where he is now if he was the only back on the team. Unfortunately for him, and for those who draft him, there are three ballcarriers on this team. There are no more overrated players in this year’s fantasy draft than Carolina’s running backs.
DeAngelo Williams is being drafted in the late third to early fourth rounds. This is ahead of Ahmad Bradshaw and Jahvid Best among others who are starting running backs on decent teams, who don’t have Stewart threatening behind him. I wouldn’t think of taking Williams until the fifth and that is only if I’m confident that Stewart will be injured. Williams is talented sure but there will not be many red zone opportunities or late game carries for the young back. If I wanted a running back on a bad team, I’d rather have Daniel Thomas for half of the auction dollars. (9$) At least he will have less talent to split carries with.
Jonathan Stewart is, somehow, even more overrated. He is being taken in the fourth round, and fetching a price of 17$ in auctions. Ummm, what? This is a backup on a horrible team. This is a backup on a horrible team that could realistically give carries to a third option in Mike Goodson. I wouldn’t take Stewart until the thirteenth round or later. I wouldn’t spend more than 1$ on him in an auction. Nothing against his talent, he is a good player, but this is a horrendous situation for a running back to put up fantasy points in.
If you had an early draft, and already took one of these players, it’s not too late. You still have time to work a trade before the season starts, but don’t delay. Do it now, while you can still get Grant, Best or Felix Jones. If you haven’t drafted yet, relax. Just sit back and let some other sap take one of these running backs.
