Michael Vick, Brandon Lloyd & Peyton Hillis: What Do They Have in Common?

Peyton Hillis may have been 2010's biggest fantasy football sleeper.

Now that the fantasy football season has come to an end, it is a good time to look back at those players who created the most fantasy buzz during the season. All of us love to brag about those fantasy football sleepers that ended up leading our team. Finding that under the radar player who exceeds expectations is often the difference between bragging rights or disappointment in your respective league.

2010 Fantasy Football Sleepers

1) Peyton Hillis

Peyton Hillis generated a huge amount of notoriety, and if you were lucky enough to have him on your team you knew exactly why. Hillis went undrafted in 70% of leagues last year. A fullback from Denver, when he was acquired by the Browns, no one expected him to have much of an impact on the field. Cleveland had many problems at QB last season and relied heavily on running the football. Hillis, who is a big powerful back, was a perfect fit for the Browns. His ability to run between the tackles and consistently pick up positive yardage was critical to the Browns offense, and he was relied upon on more and more as the season went on. Racking up almost 1200 yards on the ground along with 11 TD’s made him the fourth highest scorer among running backs. He was also a threat out of the backfield with 61 receptions on the season. Look for Hillis to be highly sought after every draft next season.

2) Brandon Lloyd

Brandon Lloyd is a journeyman in the NFL playing for many different teams throughout his career. He is always remembered for his spectacular catches that are always part of highlight reels. However, he had never been known for prolific production prior to this season. In 2010 he doubled his previous career highs in catches, receiving yards and TD’s. He was able to develop a great chemistry with Kyle Orton and even Tim Tebow throughout the whole year, which led to 1448 receiving yards and a very productive fantasy football season.

3) Michael Vick

Going into last season Vick was backing up Kevin Kolb, second on the Eagles depth chart. Due to a week one injury, Vick was thrust into the lineup and wound up just a few plays away from beating the eventual Super bowl champion Packers. Michael Vick, who was fourth among all QB’s in fantasy scoring, showed great maturity in 2010. He was able to stay in the pocket and deliver the ball downfield. Compared to his seasons in Atlanta, Vick has very dynamic playmakers to throw to now: DeSean Jackson, Jeremy Maclin, Brent Celek, and LeSean McCoy. It appears he’s got his legs back under him as well, rushing for 676 yards and nine touchdowns. He is an amazing athlete playing the quarterback position and with the talent around him, more of the same should be in store.
